The entire De Vancity bargaining unit will renegotiate the collective agreement at the end of 2015. We would like to remind city councillors that, in the collective agreement, they have the right to have a steward attend attendance management meetings. Union employees of other financial institutions, who are encouraged to join the BCGEU/NUPGE, want to have a say in the main employment decisions that affect them. The eighty-one employees of the Vancouver-based Vancity Visa Call Centre are now part of a group of more than 500 Vancity employees, represented by BCGEU/NUPGE. The City of Vancouver Engineering Unit is one of the largest work units within CUPE 1004. As employers for living wages, we are putting prosperity into the communities where we live and work. This is one of the best local economic development strategies we can implement. In previous years, the minimum wage was calculated in BC in the first months of the year and published on May 1. In order to bring itself into line with other life campaigns at home and around the world, the BC campaign had planned to postpone the update and release of the annual wage rate until November. This decision was taken to align with the rest of the country and is important for the future work of the campaign, as it creates the necessary conditions for the development of a national certification program for large regional, transnational and national employers.
